RedBook Inspect, vehicle inspection specialists and part of carsales, has announced the launch of Electric Vehicle battery health tests – a new service designed to help increase clarity and confidence in the used EV market for both consumers and dealers.

The battery is the most critical and expensive component of an EV and carsales’ latest EV research shows that battery health remains the biggest concern for potential EV buyers in Australia (59%).1 With RedBook Inspect’s new service, buyers can gain greater assurance when purchasing a used EV, while dealers can showcase certified reports that help build trust and move vehicles faster.

Available in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, consumers can add a battery ‘state of health’ test to their standard RedBook Inspect pre-purchase condition inspection. For dealers, the service is available in AutoGate, carsales’ prospect and inventory management platform, enabling them to feature certified battery reports directly within their listings.

RedBook Inspect uses the AVILOO Flash Test, a high-voltage battery test that plugs into the vehicle’s diagnostic port to assess its State of Health (SoH), charging behaviour and real-world performance. An independent certified AVILOO battery health report then estimates how much storage capacity remains available in the battery, benchmarked against similar vehicles - providing clear, independent insight for both buyers and sellers.

Ryan Svaghi, Executive General Manager of Consumer Product and Design at carsales, said: “Understanding battery performance is key to unlocking EV adoption in the used car market. By offering battery health tests, we’re helping buyers make more informed decisions and giving dealers a cost-effective way to demonstrate greater credibility and transparency. Ultimately, it’s about making it easier for Australians to embrace electric mobility with more confidence.”

Research from AVILOO further shows the importance of battery certification - more than half of potential EV buyers who previously preferred new EVs would consider purchasing a used one if an independent certificate was available.2 Battery certified vehicles are also around 36% more likely to sell, while 81% of customers report greater trust in dealers who offer certification.3

Marcus Berger, CEO AVILOO, said: “Uncertainty about the condition of the battery remains one of the biggest hurdles when buying used electric vehicles. With our independent analysis method, we help create trust for both buyers and dealers.”

For consumers, this means added peace of mind. For dealers, it’s a cost-effective, scalable way to help build buyer trust and sell EVs faster.
